June 17th, 2018 – 4th Sunday after Pentecost

If you have time, and find DSCS helpful,
please take a look at the post:

S.O.S. (Summer of Support)

Sunday: Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

Revised Common Lectionary – Year B

Text: Ezekiel 17:22-24 and Mark 4:26-34

Dollar Store Item: Brain-Teaser/Puzzle

The Take Away: God is in control, even though life is difficult sometimes. God can bring good out of the bad, or things that seem without hope.

Here is a second idea and take away:

The Take Away: God is in control, and we are surprised by God’s actions. Surprised by Joy!

Narrative Lectionary

Text: Exodus 20:17

Dollar Store Item: Brain-Teaser Puzzle

The Take Away: It is hard to figure out the difference between Need and a Want. We want things that our neighbor has, but God gives us what we need. Everything belongs to God.

    • I think in one word: hope. There seems, in the texts, stuff going on that is out of our control, and hard to figure out. The “seeds growing” parable reminds me that God is in control, things happen that is not only beyond my control, but even happening with me not being aware of it and my hope stems from that. I think that in the Ezekiel text, the twig that is planted on the heights of the mountains reminds me of the remnant that God promises to do something with. Hope springs out again. God is in control.

So the object is something I have a hard time with, or can’t understand.

      I hope that helps somewhat.

I appreciate you asking, because honestly, this was a hard text for me. It is a springboard for sure.
