Here is a gift for you. If you don’t have it, or even if you do and want to share it, follow the link below to download my first book of Haiku Prayers.
The Take Away: One side of the congregation is in, and the other is out. Jesus tells us that God has been using people from the “out” side for a long long long time. Including you and me! (Using the video from the Narrative Lectionary from 2 weeks ago).

Text: Luke 6:1-16
Dollar Store Item: Hand Soap; Cake Package; Play Cooking Set; Police Bag; Ticket Pad
The Take Away: Jesus shows that the law was made for us, not us for the law. Jesus’ love and compassion for all make some people upset. When we love people, it might make some people upset, but we are called to love anyway. It is what we are called to do as disciples of Jesus.
Text: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31a; Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-10; Luke 4:14-21
Dollar Store Item: Noise Makers, Party Supplies, Adults to help, Preparations for a Visitor.
The Take Away: We think of the Law, Old Testament, as dreary, sad, but in Nehemiah, they party when they hear the law, which had been lost for so long; Teaching the adults and kids a version of YMCA… It’s fun to work in the B.O.D.Y. (and adults will make the letters); Getting ready for a visitor, parents have a list of things to do. Jesus mentions that there is a list that shows us when the Messiah would come, and these have been done by him.

Text: Luke 5:1-11
Dollar Store Item: Straws, Toothpicks, String
The Take Away: Getting picked first can be exciting or scary. Kids get to pick a straw to see who gets the short straw. And everyone gets the short straw. We are all picked to follow Jesus.
Ruthie spent yesterday at the Vet. She said, “This was fun… I’m kidding… or is that I’m kitten?” We sprung her from Kitty Jail after bail money was paid. She will be ok, though waiting on scan results. Antibiotics for now.
If you have ever considered donating to the DSCS, now is a great time. It would extremely helpful and appreciated.
No amount is too small (or too big).
Dollar Store Item: A jar of miracle whip. A roll of ribbon.
The Take Away: You have brought with you a miracle. And pull out the jar of Miracle Whip. And when told that isn’t a miracle, talk about what a miracle is!! If God/Jesus can do something that amazing with Water… what can he do with you! And the abundance of wine, God doesn’t do things half way (ribbon keeps coming).

As we enter into the new year, and I have asked before for donations, I have done so vaguely. Sometimes being a little more specific, but nothing with a specific purpose. And many of you have given and its been very heartwarming.
Thinking about it, the last time I asked with a very specific purpose was for a similar purpose. I had dropped my iPad, and it hit the powerbutton in a particular place where I could no longer turn the iPad on…
This time is for a similar purpose. My hardware is failing, and I am in the process of replacing my hardware, and hopefully purchasing a MacBook Air. The ability for video and sound editing make this a good choice.
So, with that goal in mind, I am asking the below:
If you have ever considered donating to the DSCS, now is a great time. It would extremely helpful and appreciated. No amount is too small (or too big). Any donation will help offset the higher cost of hardware replacement.
Dollar Store Item: Gift Box, Picture of you as a kid, Piece of clothing that doesn’t fit anymore (a baby sock).
The Take Away: Jesus was once the age of the kids! He knows what they go through. We are given gifts of the Spirit: Faith, Love, Hope, Peace. We are told to cloth ourselves… with love and forgiveness. These things we never outgrow, like this sock.
